Pravir Chandra Bhanj Dev King Of Bastar was 20th Maharaja of Bastar. He was Shot Dead in 1966 for championing cause of his subjects & Rights of Tribes ! He represented Jagdalpur in MP Assembly 1957. Bhanjdev was Last Rular of Bastar established by Kakatiya Dynasty Who adopted Deo surname of feudal Kings of Odisha of Gajapati Kingdom. Bastar was part of Greater Kalinga Kingdom. King was born on 25-6-29, Educated at Rajkumar College Raipur,Sat on throne on 28-10-36 & married Rajkumari Shubhraj Kumari of Patan(Raj). He was immensely popular in people, as he took up causes of local tribes & provided leadership against exploitation of natural resources & corruption. On 25-3-66 King was killed in police firing in his Jagdalpur palace along with tribal followers. DM said that King Pravir was leading armed adivasis against police, who fired in self-defence which no one believed & knew it was a planned Murder by State Of Popular Adivasi King.
